A Yellowstone Barrel Pick Story…

The pick team included Brooks Hovden, Jason Drury, Matt Hook, Julia Komaniecki and Paulina Panszczyk with Steve Watry as the Barrel Boss.

This bourbon takes you on a train ride. Imagine boarding the train at the Drury Inn heading west back to Yellowstone. You settle in with your Yellowstone Single Barrel Select that you just grabbed at Julia’s Limestone Saloon.  As you pour it into your newly purchased whiskey glass from Paulina’s Infinity Glassworks, you are greeted with the smell of oak and a hint of smoke wafting by.  This is followed by a sweet whiff of an old-fashioned cinnamon candy. You begin chugging down the tracks passing by the famous Hook Studios where magic is created. Now you take that first sip. Yippee-ki-yay. Notes of leather and tobacco jump out. You get a trace of a charred barrel that fades to a light sweetness of a mixed fruit cup covered in cinnamon. Your taste buds explode as the train passes a shootout at Brooks Hideout. The flavors cascade as you gaze out the window at the passing forest. That warm mouthfeel gives way to the delicious burnt sugars of crème brûlée, while your taste buds dance on various notes of complexity producing a long finish. As your train arrives at the Watry Ranch, you find yourself standing at the back of the caboose with your mouth begging for another sip. This bottle shall be named the “Caboose” because it was the very last tasting of 9 pours. It is coming in at 119 proof and 5 years. But trust me you will think those numbers are wrong!

Nose: Oak with whisps of smoke followed by old-fashioned cinnamon candy.
Palate: Leather and tobacco up front, charred barrel fading into mixed fruit coated in cinnamon
Finish: Complex, long, and sweet, Crème brûlée

Train ride tip: You may find this bottle offers even greater complexity on the finish with an ice cube or a couple drops of water.
