These are the community standards for the Sycamore Whiskey Club mobile app. They are shown in the app and form part of our Terms of Service.
The rules
The Sycamore Whiskey Club app is a community of adults who share a love of whiskey and good company. A few ground rules keep it welcoming for everyone. Moderators may remove anything that crosses these lines, and repeated issues can lead to a suspended account. If something here isn’t right, you can report it or block the member involved — and you can always reach a person at [email protected].
Be 21 or older
This is a club for adults, and everything here assumes you are one. Don’t share club content anywhere it would reach people under 21.
Treat people with respect
No harassment, hate speech, personal attacks, or bullying. Disagree about a dram, not about a person.
Be yourself
This is a real-name club — members should be able to recognize who they’re talking to. Don’t impersonate another member or post as someone you’re not.
Keep it your own
Write your own tasting notes. Don’t copy others’ reviews or paste copyrighted content into the app.
Post your own photos
Share photos you took, and check that anyone recognizable in the shot is okay with it. Photos you add to the whiskey library become part of the club’s shared catalog and stay there — a librarian may tidy or replace them. If you spot a photo of yourself you’d rather we removed, tell a moderator.
No sales, trades, or shipping through the app
The app is for community, not commerce. Buying and ticketing stay on the club website; never arrange to sell or ship alcohol here.
No spam
Don’t flood the feed or post to advertise something unrelated to whiskey and the club. If you’re in the trade, a heads-up about a bottle drop or an event is welcome — that’s what the club is for. Repeated or off-topic promotion will be removed.
Respect privacy
Don’t share another member’s personal information (address, phone, email, workplace) without their okay.
Drink responsibly
Enjoy the hobby safely. Never encourage drinking and driving or unsafe behavior.
If something’s wrong, tell us — or block
Every post, comment and pour has a report option; a moderator sees it and acts. You can also block another member, which hides their posts and comments from you and yours from them. Blocking is private — they aren’t told.
Leaving the club
You can delete your account whenever you like, from your profile. Your sign-in and everything that identifies you is destroyed. What you posted stays in the club with your name removed — otherwise conversations other members took part in would be full of holes. If you would rather something specific came down, ask a moderator.
How we catalogue whiskey
Not conduct rules — these are the shared conventions that keep the club library clean.
One bottle, many batches
The bottle is the named product — “Elijah Craig Barrel Proof”. A specific batch, single barrel or store pick goes underneath it as a batch, never as a separate bottle. That keeps one score for the product and one for each batch, so you can compare them.
Year and edition variants are batches
“George T. Stagg 2024” is a batch of George T. Stagg, not its own bottle. Same for numbered editions. Filing them together is what lets you see how the years stack up side by side.
Proof and age belong to the batch
These change from batch to batch, so put them on the batch. The mash bill, casks and distillery describe the recipe and stay on the bottle — you only enter those once.
Add what you know, leave the rest
A blank field is better than a guess. Anyone can fill it in later, and a librarian checks entries over time — once one is verified, they look after it.
