This website and the Sycamore Whiskey Club mobile application are operated by the Sycamore Whiskey Club, a 501(c)(7) social organization. Throughout these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the Sycamore Whiskey Club. We offer this website and our mobile application, including all information, tools, content and services available through them (together, the “Service”), conditioned upon your acceptance of all terms, conditions, policies and notices stated here.
By visiting our website, purchasing something from us, or creating an account in or using our mobile application, you engage in our Service and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms and Conditions”, “Terms”), including those additional terms, conditions and policies referenced here or available by hyperlink. These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including without limitation browsers, vendors, customers, merchants, club members, and contributors of content.
By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, you represent that you are of legal age to purchase or consume alcohol in your state or province of residence. To create an account in our mobile application you must be 21 years of age or older, and we ask you to confirm this when you join. We record only that you confirmed it, and the date — we do not collect or store your date of birth, and we do not store your age.
This section applies to ideas, suggestions and other materials you send to us directly. Content you post inside the club mobile application is governed by “Your Content in the App” below, not by this section.
Your submission of personal information through the store is governed by our Privacy Policy. To view our Privacy Policy, click here. Information collected through the club mobile application is described in the “Sycamore Whiskey Club mobile app” section of that policy.
Questions about the Terms and Conditions should be sent to us at [email protected].
A. Club Membership and the App
The Sycamore Whiskey Club mobile application is a private space for club members. Membership is free. Access to the app is by application and is granted at our discretion.
To join, you provide your name and a club access code, and you confirm that you are 21 or older and agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and the club’s House Rules. An administrator reviews each application. We may decline an application, and we do not have to give a reason.
The club access code is for members only. Please don’t share it outside the club — it is the only thing standing between our members’ conversations and the general public.
You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, since signing in to the app is done with a code sent to your email address.
We may suspend or remove your membership if you break these Terms or the House Rules, or if we reasonably believe you have. A suspended member cannot post or take part in the club app.
B. Your Content in the App
You keep ownership of what you post. Your photos, tasting notes, posts, comments and ratings remain yours.
The licence you give us. By posting content in the club app, you give the Sycamore Whiskey Club a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, reproduce, display and resize that content for the purpose of operating the club app for our members. This is what lets us keep your content on the club’s servers and content-delivery network, create smaller versions of your images so they load quickly, and show your content to other members.
Photos you add to the whiskey library become part of the club’s shared catalog. Our librarians may edit, replace, or combine catalog entries, including the photos attached to them, to keep the library accurate and free of duplicates.
If you delete your account, posts, comments, pours and catalog photos you contributed remain in the app, but they are no longer attributed to you — your name is removed and they appear as “Former member”. This licence continues for that content. We do this because removing it would leave holes in conversations other members took part in, and would change the ratings on bottles across the library. If there is something specific you want taken down, ask a moderator before you go; moderators can remove individual posts and comments at any time, including after your account is gone.
What you promise when you post. You confirm that you took the photo or otherwise have the right to post it, that posting it doesn’t break anyone else’s rights, and that anyone recognizable in it is comfortable appearing in the club app. If you see a photo of yourself you would rather we removed, tell a moderator and we will remove it.
What we won’t do. We will not use your content to promote the club outside the app — on our website, on social media, or in printed material — without asking you first.
C. Community Standards and Moderation
Members of the club app agree to follow the club’s House Rules, which are shown in the app and form part of these Terms. In short: be 21 or older, treat people with respect, be yourself, write your own tasting notes, post your own photos, don’t buy or sell alcohol through the app, don’t spam, respect other members’ privacy, and drink responsibly.
The app provides a way to report any post, comment or pour to our moderators, and a way to block another member, which hides their content from you and yours from them. Blocking is private — the other member is not told. Moderators may remove any content that breaks the House Rules or these Terms, and administrators may suspend or remove members who do so repeatedly or seriously. When we remove something you posted, we tell you and point you at the rule it broke. We aim to review reports promptly.
We are not obliged to monitor content, and we are not responsible for content posted by members.
D. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account at any time from within the app, under You → Settings → Delete my account. Deleting your account permanently removes your sign-in and your profile — your name, photo, hometown and anything you wrote about yourself — along with your notifications, your shelf, your event RSVPs and your notification settings. It cannot be undone, and an administrator cannot restore it for you.
Content you contributed to the club remains, unattributed, as described in “Your Content in the App” above.
You are welcome to apply again later with the same email address, but you would be joining as a new member, with a new application and an administrator’s approval, and nothing from your previous account would return.
Full details, including how to ask us to delete your account if you cannot sign in, are on our Account & Data Deletion page.
E. Other Members’ Information
The club app shows you other members’ names, photos and hometowns, and the posts and tasting notes they have chosen to share with the club. That information is shared with you as a fellow member, in confidence.
You agree not to copy, collect, publish or share another member’s personal information outside the club, and not to use automated means to collect information from the app.
F. Third-Party Trademarks and Product Images
Distillery names, brand names, logos and product images shown in the club app are the property of their respective owners. Where product images appear, they are used with the permission of the rights holder or under their published media terms, and are credited in the app.
The Sycamore Whiskey Club is an independent social club. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any distillery, brand or retailer shown in the app.
G. App Stores
The club app is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. These Terms are an agreement between you and the Sycamore Whiskey Club only — Apple and Google are not parties to them and are not responsible for the club app or its content. Your use of the app is also subject to the App Store or Google Play terms, as applicable.
H. Club Events and Responsible Drinking
The Sycamore Whiskey Club is a volunteer-run social club. We use the club app to organize gatherings. Attendance is voluntary and at your own risk.
Where we gather at a venue, you are subject to that venue’s rules.
You are responsible for your own conduct and for how much you drink. Please drink responsibly, arrange a safe way home before you start, never drive after drinking, and look after the people around you. Nothing in the club app is an inducement to drink, and no part of it is intended for anyone under 21.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Sycamore Whiskey Club, its officers and its volunteers are not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from your attendance at a club gathering or your consumption of alcohol.
